Festival hearts

The little heARTpaintings love to go to festivals to be handed out there. This sometimes happens spontaneously and sometimes on assignment. They are made in the colors and style of the festival in question with an accompanying label with logo. Such as for Festival LIEF.

Sometimes we spontaneously pop up at a festival, like last summer with the Magical Mandalas to take with you for free or pass on at Festival HE:LEEN in Utrecht, or heart gifts are handed out to surprised passers-by, like at a festival in Groningen.

In honor of the 10th anniversary of hARTkado.NU (November 9, 2022), we participated in City Festival U? from Le Guess Who. A part of Utrecht was transformed into Hartenoord, a participatory and connecting art event by and for Utrecht.
​
Artists were called upon to hang a work of art on a tree, bench or bicycle rack at the indicated location during the four-day event, without obligation.
Art lovers were invited to look for these art gifts to take home or pass on and let them know what they had done with them.

Is making art playing, or is playing making art?
For the second time in a row we participated in City Festival U?/Le Guess Who. With the program component HOMO LUDENS we looked for the basis of art & culture : all culture is potentially play.
Playing relaxes, connects, awakens creativity, expands the mind and, like art, can only arise from freedom.
Visitors were invited to (re)discover the playing person within themselves11. Hartenoord was specially transformed into a Playground for this purpose!
